CLASS DESCRIPTION

 

This certificate course meets and exceeds OSHA requirements for 29 CFR 1910.120 (q) and Cal-OSHA's CCR Title 8, 5192(q). The course is designed for employees who are likely to contain a hazardous substance spill from a safe distance.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN

  • Contain the release from a safe distance, keep from spreading, and prevent exposure

  • Knowledge of basic hazard and risk assessment techniques

  • Know how to select and use PPE provided to the FRO

  • Understand basic hazardous materials terms

  • Know how to perform basic control, containment, and/or confinement operations and rescue injured or contaminated persons within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available with their unit

  • Implement basic equipment, victim, and rescue personnel decontamination procedures

  • An understanding of the relevant standard operating procedures and termination procedures
