CLASS DESCRIPTION

This certificate course meets and exceeds OSHA requirements for 29 CFR 1910.120 (q) and Cal-OSHA's CCR Title 8, 5192(q). The course is designed for employees who are likely to contain a hazardous substance spill from a safe distance.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN

LEVEL 1 & 2

 

LEVEL 3

  • How to respond to hazardous substances releases for the purpose of stopping the release

  • How to approach the point of release to plug, patch, or stop the release of a hazardous substance

  • Know how to implement the ER plan

  • Know the classification, identification, and verification of known and unknown materials by using field survey instruments and equipment

  • Be able to function within an assigned role in the ICS

  • Know how to select and use proper specialized chemical PPE provided

  • Understand hazard and risk assessment techniques

  • Be able to perform advanced control, containment, and/or confinement operations and rescue injured or contaminated persons within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available with the unit

  • Understand / implement equipment, victim and rescue personnel decontamination procedures

  • Understand termination procedures

  • Understand basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
