CLASS DESCRIPTION
The course is designed for employees who are likely to contain spills and stop releases. Students attending the technicians level training at CSUF need additional site-specific training before being qualified as a Technicians Level Emergency Responder.
Scheduled public classes include general first responder information. After your employees attend our class, they will require additional site specific training regarding your company's emergency response procedures, chemicals they may encounter, and hands on training regarding your company's SCBAs, level A or B protection and required life saving exercises.
Additional requirements for employees to perform technicians level activities may include: HAZMAT physicals; respirator fit testing; an understanding of your company's response activities; CPR / First Aid; and rescue procedures.

How to respond to hazardous substances releases for the purpose of stopping the release

How to approach the point of release to plug, patch, or stop the release of a hazardous substance

Know how to implement the ER plan

Know the classification, identification, and verification of known and unknown materials by using field survey instruments and equipment

Be able to function within an assigned role in the ICS

Know how to select and use proper specialized chemical PPE provided
-
Understand hazard and risk assessment techniques

Be able to perform advanced control, containment, and/or confinement operations and rescue injured or contaminated persons within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available with the unit

Understand / implement equipment, victim and rescue personnel decontamination procedures

Understand termination procedures
-
Understand basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
